Frozen waffles are a perfect way to enjoy a warm breakfast when you don’t have time to cook. But with so many brands to choose from, it can be pricey (and disappointing) trying to find the best one. We tested eight brands and ranked them best to worst to help narrow down your choices so you don’t end up buying boxes of waffles that your family isn’t going to eat.
We bought brands that are widely available and under $5 per box. Then, we evaluated each waffle based on taste, texture, and appearance. In a few situations, we considered other elements, like innovative packaging designs. In taste testing the waffles, we tried them dry, with butter, and then with butter and syrup.

From the start, we had hints that these waffles were going to be delicious: We could smell the blueberry through the box during the entire car ride home. While so many blueberry waffles have an artificial smell to them, these had a much more natural scent. The waffles are thicker than your typical frozen waffle, and they have deeper pockets that hold syrup nicely. The waffles have a nice, crisp texture even once they’re covered with syrup. The blueberry taste is more subtle, but delicious, making these waffles our top pick.
A close runner-up, these Belgian waffles feature a light vanilla flavor and an excellent texture. They toast up to have a crunchy exterior with a softer interior, so you can cut them with a fork. They have deep pockets and measure just under one inch thick. Because they’re so thick, a single waffle is filling, making up for the fact there are just six to the package. Inside the box, the waffles are wrapped in two plastic packs of three, so they stay fresh and you can take your time eating them.
These waffles are everything a good frozen waffle should be. They offer an excellent crunch without being tough to cut, and they’re plenty flavorful even before adding butter. The waffles naturally taste slightly of butter, and with 10 to a package, you’re getting a great value. We appreciated that the new packaging includes an adhesive strip right on the inner plastic bag. Once you’ve opened the bag, that strip seals it closed repeatedly for freshness until you’re done with the whole box.
The Food Club waffles feature a taste and texture that’s very similar to Eggo. There’s a slight hint of butter, and the waffles were easy to cut with just a fork. They lack a bit of the crisp and crunch of Eggos, but their taste is excellent. The package includes 10 waffles.
The Breakfast Best waffles lacked flavor. They didn’t taste bad, but they also didn’t taste like much of anything. They had a good texture and were crunchy to bite into, but soft to chew. With 10 waffles to a pack, they offer decent value but aren’t very appealing because of their mediocre flavor.
Unfortunately, these waffles were a disappointment. They offered a decent crunch and weren’t tough or difficult to chew or cut, but they lacked flavor. The best way to describe them is bland, and even dressing them up with butter and syrup didn’t help much. They come in packages of 10.
The Great Value waffles had a poor taste and texture, so we don’t think they offered good value at all. The waffles never really got crisp, and they were tough and a bit difficult to cut. They also had a bad taste reminiscent of cornmeal that couldn’t be masked, even by syrup. The package includes just eight waffles.
These waffles had a strong blueberry smell which was surprisingly artificial, given that the waffles are organic. That’s where the blueberry really ended, though, since the waffles lacked much blueberry taste. They were chewy and dense, and there was a strong and unpleasant flavor that resulted in a bad aftertaste. These aren’t waffles that we would buy again.
