If you don't drink more than a cup or two of coffee during the day — or you don't have much free counter space — a small 5-cup coffee maker like this one may be a better choice than a standard-sized 12- or 14-cup model. This Walmart-exclusive coffee pot is about as basic as it gets, but the vast majority of buyers don't seem to mind. Available in black or mint green.

Mainstays 12 Cup White Coffee Maker

Price: $11 from Walmart

If you drink a fair amount of coffee daily but still don't want to spend a lot, Walmart also sells a 12-cup version of its super-basic Mainstays coffee maker. Some owners complain that the filter basket is a challenge to remove and clean, but for most owners, the very low price is reason enough to overlook any such shortcomings. This model sells out frequently.

Hamilton Beach 49465R

Price: $24 from Walmart

Some coffee drinkers swear that a cone-shaped filter brews a better pot of joe than a basket-shaped filter because it allows the hot water to extract all that coffee goodness from the grounds more efficiently. If that's how you feel, then this Hamilton Beach 12-cup coffee maker could be just the ticket. It's also got a 24-hour brew-delay function so you can wake up to hot coffee.

Target

Mr. Coffee Easy Measure

Price: $50 from Target

Good Housekeeping and Wirecutter both endorse this 12-cup programmable coffee maker as a bargain buy. The oversized lid makes adding water a mess-free experience, reviewers say, and the programmable timer also keeps track of how long the current brew has been sitting on the warming plate (no more icky late-day coffee!). But most importantly, reviewers say, the Mr. Coffee was the one cheap coffee maker that brewed a decent-tasting cup of joe — not too weak, not burnt.

Walmart

Hamilton Beach BrewStation 48465

Price: $57 from Walmart

Sooner or later, your coffee machine's glass carafe is bound to break — that's the nature of hot liquids, glass, and frequent use. This Hamilton Beach coffee maker avoids that potential by doing away with the carafe altogether. Instead, it keeps brewed coffee warm in an internal 12-cup tank. Just press your mug against the dispense bar and fill it with fresh coffee. Other nice-to-have features include a brew timer, adjustable brew strength and size (including a single-serving option). Available in red or black.

If convenience is king, a single-serving coffee machine that uses K-Cups may be just the thing to get you going in the morning. More than 4,500 Walmart shoppers give the Keurig a solid 4.4-star average score. It has three serving size options (the largest is just 10 ounces, though), and owners say they love how compact it is. The biggest drawback even otherwise-satisfied owners say is that it's a bit louder than expected. Available in five different colors.

Walmart

Cuisinart PerfecTemp DCC-3200

Price: $100 from Walmart

Cuisinart's programmable PerfecTemp 14-cup coffee maker has earned kudos for years from demanding reviewers such as Consumer Reports and coffee drinkers alike. In tests, it delivers a consistently hot, hearty brew, and keeps it warm with an adjustable-temperature carafe hotplate. The 14-cup capacity is larger than other coffee machines in this roundup, and brew size and strength both are adjustable — all nice perks (pun intended) if you consume a lot of coffee throughout the day, reviewers say.

Target

Bonavita BV1900TS

Price: $150 from Target

Thermal carafe coffee makers allow you to take a freshly brewed pot of java with you, which can come in handy on a lazy Sunday morning in bed or during a dinner party. But testers at both Digital Trends and Reviews.com say that's just gilding the lily. The real appeal of this Bonavita, they say, is its compact form, one-touch operation, and a "pre-infusion" feature, which gives the grounds a pre-brewing spritz of hot water to make them "bloom," making it easier to squeeze every last bit of caffeinated goodness from the grind.

Target

Ninja Hot & Cold Brew System CP301

Price: $180 from Target

A household divided between tea and coffee drinkers can be a recipe for domestic drama. The Ninja solves that conundrum with separate brewing options for both coffee and tea, not to mention a range of options for single servings, travel mugs, and the included 10-cup carafe, as well as adjustable brew strengths for regular and iced tea, plus cold brew, and espresso-style drinks (which you can embellish with the aid of the included manual frother).
