Home No More

It seems like retail chains are dropping like flies this year. Joann closed its doors for good, Rite Aid has closed 1,000 locations, and Big Lots filed for bankruptcy.

Earlier this year, At Home, a retailer of furniture and seasonal home decor, joined the ranks of failing businesses by filing for bankruptcy. Since then, it's been closing stores and just announced more closures are on the way.

Here's what's happening, including the full list of locations on the chopping block.

Why Is At Home Closing Locations?

At Home filed for bankruptcy in June 2025. The chain cited about $2 billion in debt, which it attributed to a number of factors, including supply chain disruptions, slumping sales since the pandemic, and high tariffs on Chinese imports.

"Given the expenses associated with brick-and-mortar operation and the issues affecting the retail industry, a number of the (At Home) remaining stores are operating at sub-optimal performance levels," said the company in bankruptcy court documents.

At the time of the bankruptcy filing, the chain had about 266 stores across 40 states.

When Will At Home Locations Close?

At Home has not announced exactly when any of its locations will be closing for sure. That’s because they’re undergoing liquidation sales operated by a separate company called Hilco. Once everything from a location has been sold, including fixtures and store equipment, then it will be closed for good, according to a press release.

At Home Store Closures Previously Announced

At Home previously announced that 26 store locations would be closing across a dozen states. You can find the full list of those closures in an earlier article.

Interestingly, two of those locations, in Princeton, New Jersey and Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, are actually staying open, according to USA Today. It’s unclear why those two stores reversed course and will stay open.
