After a four-year hiatus, Arby’s is bringing back its beloved Potato Cakes — permanently. And this time, you don’t have to worry about them playing with your emotions — the chain has made a legal promise to never axe the beloved item.
Here is everything you need to know.
Potato Cakes are officially back at all 3,376 Arby’s locations across the U.S., the chain announced Thursday, after tens of thousands of persistent fans — grieving the beloved menu item — wore down management, who ultimately saw no reason not to bring them back.
“We constantly get calls, messages, and comments on social media about Potato Cakes. Since we’re in the business of making Arby’s fans happy, bringing Potato Cakes back was a no-brainer for us,” Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Baker told Nation’s Restaurant News in an email.
Prices start at $2.69 for two cakes, $2.99 for three, and $3.49 for four, though they may be higher depending on location.
The crispy, shredded potato triangles had been an Arby’s staple since 1964, but in 2021, the chain made the highly unpopular decision to axe them in favor of crinkle-cut fries.
Fans were outraged — more than 10,000 customers flooded social media, demanding their return.
Arby’s finally acknowledged the demand in July 2024, when it brought Potato Cakes back as a limited-time promotion to celebrate its 60th anniversary. The return came with a full-scale marketing push featuring Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan, who was positioned as the “leader” of the Order of Potato Cakes — a fictional secret society devoted to the dish.
The campaign was a hit, but fans weren’t exactly sold on a celebrity-led stunt designed to push Potato Cake-themed merchandise rather than guaranteeing the item’s long-term survival.
Arby’s knows you have trust issues. So, to prove this time is for real, the chain took an unconventional step: the “Pre-Class Action Lawsuit.”
Arby’s pledges $1 million in food to be split among those who sign up at www.arbyspotatocakeslawsuit.com. If they ever dare to remove Potato Cakes again, you’ll be entitled to a cut of that food credit.
As an extra incentive, early sign-ups also get a free two-piece Potato Cakes order via DoorDash between February 27 and March 5.
