You'll have a new way to pay when your Amazon cart is full of smart plugs and dishtowels on Black Friday: Venmo.
The retail giant just announced the new checkout option and has started a slow rollout. Venmo is now available as a payment option to some users on the Amazon app and on the website as an alternative to credit cards. Amazon plans to have the option available to all its customers by the time Black Friday rolls around on Nov. 25.

To use Venmo, customers can add Venmo as a payment option on their Amazon account page and then select it just like they would a credit card at checkout.
Adding Venmo, a peer-to-peer digital wallet app that's often used to send money between friends, is part of the company's goal to make paying for purchases easier.
"We want to offer customers payment options that are convenient, easy to use, and secure," said Max Bardon, vice president of Amazon Worldwide Payments, in a statement. "Our goal is to meet the needs and preferences of every Amazon customer."
Shares of PayPal, which owns Venmo, surged after the announcement, though it follows on the heels of a lawsuit filed against PayPal earlier this year that alleges undisclosed security risks to Venmo users.
After lackluster sales during this month's Prime Early Access Sale, Amazon is hoping diverse payment options will boost holiday spending.
