We all know how difficult it is to maintain New Year's resolutions, particularly resolutions about health and wellness. According to a Statistic Brain survey, the top resolution for 2017 is to lose weight and eat healthier, followed by "life/self improvements," but only 9 percent of people report successfully following through. So here to offer help is a roundup of some of the most affordable wellness programs for discovering a new, healthier you in the new year. Some are in stunning destinations such as Costa Rica, while others are closer to home.

KRIPALU CENTER, MASSACHUSETTS

It seems only appropriate to begin with one of the most renowned wellness centers in the country. Kripalu, in Stockbridge, offers more than 700 programs a year focused on such things as yoga, dieting, health, fitness, and wellness. That includes a variety of weekend workshops, such as a two-night Women's Self-Renewal Retreat costing $310 for tuition and $198 for accommodations and meals.

PURA VIDA RETREAT & SPA, COSTA RICA

How does a getaway in the mountains of Costa Rica sound, amid the bitter chill of winter? Pura Vida offers a variety of health-oriented packages to kick-start the year, the most affordable of which is a three-night Mind, Body + Spirit Package. It includes four yoga sessions, two one-hour massages, three meals daily, airport transfer, and nightly accommodations starting at $695 (double occupancy). The five-night version adds a hike and full-day and half-day eco-adventures starting at $1,055 with double occupancy -- about $211 a night.

THE CONFIDANTE HOTEL AND V ART OF WELLNESS, FLORIDA

People like to present their "best self" in Miami, so the Confidante Hotel has teamed up with V Art of Wellness to offer fitness classes to guests and residents. The daily classes, ranging from "Beach Body Blast" to "Dynamic Flow Yoga," are free for hotel guests and $20 for others. Hotel room rates in high season start at $224 a night.

MINNESOTA ZEN MEDITATION CENTER, MINNESOTA

The Minnesota Zen Meditation Center puts on Beginner's Mind Retreats that are just a few hours long ($40), full-day retreats ($65), and monthly weekend retreats ($130) designed to provide deep immersion in meditation. The center also offers daily dharma talks, one-on-one meetings with teachers, and vegetarian buffets.

FINGER LAKES YOGASCAPES, NEW YORK

The specialty here is affordable retreats for women combining yoga, outdoor adventure, and farm-to-table meals and local wines. In winter, yoga takes place outdoors on snowshoes. (Hold off until summer for stand-up-paddleboard yoga on the lake.) Yogascapes' daylong "snowga" retreat in February is $67 with a snowshoe rental, $52 without. The day is capped off with a bonfire overlooking a lake, followed by comfort food and wine.

THE INN AT VAUCLUSE SPRING, VIRGINIA

Seeking to decrease stress? Or add more meaning to life? There's a workshop for that. The Inn at Vaucluse Spring offers mini mindfulness retreats on weekends in January and February led by Tiffany Nilde, a medical doctor and Ph.D. with a background in personal mindfulness practice, training, and the clinical applications of mindfulness. The cost of the inn's Introduction to Mindfulness weekend workshop is $240. Accommodations are additional, starting at $185, and include gourmet, three-course breakfasts.

JEKYLL ISLAND YOGA RETREAT, GEORGIA

At the Jekyll Island Club Hotel's January Yoga & Meditation Retreat, mornings are spent watching the sunrise and meditating on a beach, followed by gentle yoga classes, healthy cooking demonstrations, and more. During downtime, guests can explore island scenery, wander Driftwood Beach, paddleboard, or kayak through winding marshes. Costs start at $470, which includes two nights' accommodation, breakfasts, one dinner, yoga and meditation sessions, and a cooking demonstration with lunch on Saturday.

KETANGA WOMEN'S ONLY YOGA & RUNNING RETREAT, CALIFORNIA

Immersing yourself in yoga and running amid the beauty of wine country is yet another way to do 2017 right. This three-day experience at Westerbeke Ranch in Sonoma (about an hour north of San Francisco) includes days packed with activity. The schedule for the March 10-12 retreat starts early with Pilates or guided hikes and ends with sunset yoga. The weekend, including accommodations, starts at $595, or less than $200 a day.

SUNRISE SPRINGS INTEGRATIVE WELLNESS RESORT, NEW MEXICO

Opened in 2015, Sunrise Springs Integrative Wellness Resort sits among 70 acres of towering Santa Fe cottonwoods and spring-fed ponds that can be fully appreciated with a three-night Wellness Exploration package. It includes farm-fresh gourmet meals and daily fitness activities including yoga and meditation, as well as horticulture, culinary, and expressive arts classes. Lodging packages are 20 percent off through March 31, lowering the starting cost to about $907.

SUN VALLEY WELLNESS FESTIVAL, IDAHO

If you can make it to spring, this four-day festival in May has health-oriented speakers and overflows with movement and yoga classes. Attendees can also indulge in massages, reflexology, and intuitive readings. Festival day passes start at $100. Accommodations at the resort start at $289, but there's a special festival lodging rate of $139 that can be obtained by calling the hotel.

HARAMARA RETREAT CENTER, MEXICO

If those health and wellness resolutions start to falter midway through the year, check out the Chill'Asana retreat Yoga, Martial Arts & Movement for the Soul. Offered July 1-8 in the quaint Mexican coastal town of Sayulita, the weeklong program helps participants reconnect with mind and body, eat clean food, and explore new movement practices. Costs start at $1,250 for dorm accommodations reserved before Feb. 15, or $170 a day.
