If there is one prevailing thought among the public when it comes to celebrities, it's that they're out of touch with the grittier details of real life, including the average American's day-to-day financial struggles. That said, there are a few famous names that seem to have a surprisingly decent handle on what it takes to make, spend, and appreciate money. We rounded up some of the more astute examples from famous actors, musicians, comedians, and more.

Snoop Dogg

Another favorite Snoop quote: “When I’m no longer rapping, I want to open up an ice cream parlor and call myself Scoop Dogg.” God, we love us some Snoop.

Elizabeth Taylor

Taylor also said "big girls need diamonds," so maybe she wasn't always completely in touch with the hoi polloi.

David Lee Roth

Money wasn't the only thing Roth could be brutally honest about. The Van Halen frontman also said: "I don't get all the women that I want ... I get all the women that want me."

Bob Hope

Hope, who was famously philanthropic (he donated millions to various charities), had a net worth estimated to be well over $100 million when he passed in 2003.

Joan Rivers

Rivers might have had a reputation as a fashionista, but in some ways she lived like the rest of us, often repurposing her outfits and shopping at thrift stores.

Johnny Cash

Money might have heaped struggles upon Cash's shoulders, but he wasn't immune to poverty. The Man in Black grew up as one of seven kids and started working his family's farm when he was 5 years old.

Oprah Winfrey

She might be one of the richest women in the world, but Oprah has never lost her way with words. She's also said: "Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.”

Eminem

For a guy who has spent a lifetime flipping off one camera after another, Eminem — whose real name is a very-wealthy sounding Marshall Bruce Mathers III — often has a particularly gifted way with words.

Oscar Wilde

Wilde is also famously quoted as having said, "When I was young I thought that money was the most important thing in life. Now that I am old, I know that it is.” Amen, brother.

Bob Dylan

Another great Dylan quote regarding money? "What's money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do."

Kevin Bacon

Bacon, who reportedly owns, err, only three houses, has an estimated net worth of $45 million.

Humphrey Bogart

Before he became one of the greatest actors of all time, Bogart made money playing chess in New York parks and Coney Island.
