Have you bought your Thanksgiving turkey yet? If you are feeding a crowd, it won't be cheap. The average price of a 16-pound turkey is $27. The good news is that the average turkey price is 6% less than last year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. Where you live can also make a difference in what you pay at the checkout.
Here are the cheapest birds according to which state you buy them.
You'll only spend $25.85 in Kansas, which is cheaper than the average but not the cheapest.
A bird in Indiana will set you back $25.85, just as it would in Kansas. And while these prices are lower than the average, you might be surprised by the how cheap the lowest is.
If you're shopping for a turkey in Detroit, good news: it should only cost $25.35. That's the price for the whole state, too.
People who live in Nashville and in surrounding areas will get a good deal on turkeys, which sell for just $24.85 in the state. That's the price for a 15-pound bird, too.
Kentucky and Tennessee are tied when it comes to turkey prices, with both states pegged at $24.85 for a 15-pound bird.
This Midwestern state comes in almost in the middle of the cheap turkey roundup, as you can find a turkey for $22.85 in the state. It is, however, tied at this price.
Just like Ohio, Illinois has an average turkey price that is $22.85 — right in the middle of the cheapest turkeys in America.
Texas may be a big state, but it's not when it comes to turkey prices. The average price is just $22.60.
Mississippi is a good place to grab a Thanksgiving turkey, as the average price is just $22.30.
While getting your bird Cajun seasoned might cost more, a 15-pound bird is under $20. It costs just $19.80 in the state — and while it's cheap, it's slightly pricier than the cheapest.
The cheapest average for turkey prices can be found in Oklahoma. A 15-pound bird is $19.75, 5 cents cheaper than can be found in runner-up state Louisiana.
